These days, travel is as much about obtaining the most Insta-worthy photo as it is about discovery, experience and relaxation. Whether a seasoned blogger or a traveller hoping to give your Instagram page a dynamic boost, you can’t go wrong with these five unique locations, in and around Chiang Mai.
When it comes to ‘gram-worthy places, there’s endless instagrammable across the globe, but we wanted to highlight some of the unique gems here in our home, Chiang Mai, Thailand. From modern coffee shops to tropical rain forest waterfalls Chiang Mai is truly a feast for the eyes. Sometimes the best souvenir is an image and the memories it carries. Check out the sights like a travel blogger and capture amazing images you will treasure forever.
I Love Flower Farm
Located just 30 minutes drive from central Chiang Mai, the I Love Flower Farm is a must-stop photo opportunity for anyone wishing to add a splash of colour to their Instagram account. This 8-rai garden specialising in indigenous flowers positively encourages visitors to dance and play among the stunning purple and white blooms, before enjoying a sweet snack and herbal tea set that’s included in the entry fee of 70 baht*. If you’re looking for utterly gorgeous and whimsical shots, this is the place for you!

The Rectangle coffee x tower
In the Hang Dong area of Chiang Mai, close to the Grand Canyon Waterpark, you’ll find one of the most insta-worthy coffee shops in the area. The Rectangle stands out from the average cafe establishment for its minimalist vibe and modern industrial style architecture. This 6-storey concrete structure lay abandoned until a Bangkok photographer with an eye for urban chic and a love of good coffee, converted it into the popular hub it has become today. If an austere retro-style form is your thing and you’re willing to wind your way up each storey’s staircase, you’re sure to find plenty of recesses and openings to satisfy your photographic taste. The Rectangle not only serves as an awesome stage for your insta-photos, it also serves up a tasty selection of stylishly-named coffees and sweet treats, making for that perfect edible photo-op too!

The Naga Stairs at Wat Phra Doi Suthep Temple
At an elevation of 1,073 metres within the Doi Suthep National Park, sits Wat Phra Doi Suthep, one of the most revered temples in Thailand. This popular site for tourists and pilgrims alike offers a stunning outlook across Chiang Mai city below and the northern mountains beyond. But before reaching the temple’s renowned gold plated chedi (stupa) visitors must first ascend the 306 steps flanked by magnificent brightly tiled nagas (mythical serpents). The time of day you visit will determine the mood of your insta-worthy photo! If you’re after something truly ethereal then be prepared to rise early to ensure you achieve that lone selfie enveloped in early morning mist. Alternatively, if you’re happy to include the ebb and flow of fellow humans, then later in the day will suit.
This imposing staircase to Buddhist merit is an essential stopover for any traveller seeking that spiritual allure for their Instagram portfolio.
