Elephant Care Intro

Spend an entire day with beautiful Asian elephants and learn how to be an elephant caretaker! Learn how to approach and communicate with them, make elephant medicine, bathe them and walk with them through the jungle to forage for fresh healthy food.  Learn about their history in Thailand and how your purchase of an elephant experience with our organization helps to create a safe and permanent home for them. Then relax at the riverside cafe and enjoy delicious local foods. After lunch, wash and swim with an elephant in the river!

Itinerary

This tour runs twice daily, the morning session starts at 9AM and the afternoon session begins at 12PM. We include pick-up from your hotel in Chiang Mai either in the morning (between 8-9AM) or afternoon (between 11AM-12PM). Transportation is a traditional Thai songteaw (covered pick-up truck). If you are staying at the Chai Lai Orchid, your guide will simply meet you in our cafe at the start of either session.

Make elephant friends at our rescue elephant camp! Feed them snacks, take selfies, and learn how to approach them and give them simple commands. Each elephant has their own mahout, who will show you how to speak to them, stay with you for the duration of your experience, and tell you about the personality of their beloved elephant.  (Please note: we do not offer elephant rides.)

Explore the lush jungle landscape as you take a walk through the jungle with your elephant. This helps keep the elephants healthy and active and allows them to forage for fresh vegetation along the way.

After walking through the jungle, what’s better than cooling off in the river by giving your elephant a bath? Elephants love playing in the river, so be ready to get wet! They love splashing and giving wet kisses.

This tour offers a delicious riverside lunch. Enjoy a traditional vegetarian meal and fresh seasonal fruits as you take in the beautiful jungle scenery. Please let us know beforehand if you have any dietary restrictions so we can accommodate.

Say a last goodbye to your new elephant friends, your transportation will be waiting to drive you back to Chiang Mai. The morning session typically finishes around 1PM, the afternoon session finishes around 5pm.
