There are so many viral videos raising money to “save an elephant.” These campaigns succeed because they appeal to people’s emotions. Some people think that buying an elephant means “saving” it — but in reality, it often does the opposite. When people purchase elephants, it creates demand for more elephants, which unfortunately means more elephants are taken from the wild.

In Southeast Asia, that usually involves capturing young elephants and separating them from their mothers. It’s heartbreaking — and it fuels a dangerous trafficking trade that puts wild elephant populations at serious risk.

Now, here’s where renting elephants — the right way — makes a difference.  When we “rent” (or more accurately, partner with an Indigenous Karen elephant owner)  your money goes directly toward food, veterinary care, and protection for those animals, on top of providing income for the family.

No new elephants are captured. No one gets hurt. And you get a more authentic, respectful experience — like walking beside an elephant shoulder to shoulder.

When elephants are bought by private individuals or businesses, they can further enrich the buyer and be more cost-effective for a business. However, we are a social business and we believe the net impact is more important than net profit.
